Frozen Microwave!

I haven't posted in awhile.  It is craziness how the weather has been here in Ohio.  We had torrential down pours over a week ago.  Some of our neighbors had flooding in their basements!  Not a great thing to hear. Thankfully, theirs weren't finished so no furniture was ruined.  Doesn't give us the warm fuzzy feeling since ours is.  Makes me worry maybe we aren't seeing something.

Today it is below zero!!!!!  Horrible.  Our house sounds like it is loosing parts with the horrific wind we are having as well.  But to our surprise our Microwave is frozen and frosted on the inside!!!! Our pantry is the same degree as it is outside!!!!!!!! We have a facebook page for everyone on our street and it seems a lot of other neighbors are having the same issue.  Not very energy efficient if you as me!!!!  I have called and placed service requests.  I hope someone calls us soon.

I hope everyone had a Happy New Years and Holiday :)

  1. We just moved into our Florence elevation k in northeast Ohio last month. Our microwave did the same a week ago and my pm said there may be some ice built up on the outside vent. He said it was perfectly normal for this kind of weather. We wiped the moisture out of the microwave and it hasn't happened again. But our microwave is freezing still. Our pantry is a bit chilly but the most concerning thing is the draft conning from the gas fireplace. I am very interested to hear how this turns out for you. Best of luck!

    1. We have a Palermo in NE Ohio and we have the exact same issues. Microwave is freezing, but is no match for the fireplace!! Yesterday there was frost on the slate that surrounds the fireplace! I don't think this is normal and certainly doesn't seem energy efficient!

    2. Wow! I guess this is a common occurrence. I have placed a service request for them to check out the vent and the microwave. I don't want this to ruin our microwave. I can't imagine the condensation being a good thing. We don't have a fireplace, I would definitely say that is not normal!

  2. We haven't noticed frost itself yet, but my husband just stuck a thermometer in our microwave and it's 27 degrees (it's about 6 degrees outside).

It seems like this would be a big loss for energy efficiency, no?

  3. Don't you have a vent in your pantry? I have a floor vent in my pantry that keeps the temperature regulated in my Florence.

My microwave doesn't vent to the outside of the house. I was a little upset about that when I found that out, but maybe it's for the best if the microwave is just going to get frosty.

    1. We do not have a vent in our pantry. I thought that was strange when we moved in. We haven't noticed the temp difference until recently. Obviously since it was below zero. I will be investigating this for sure!

    2. I guess it must be a regional thing since I'm in MD.

    3. We dont have a vent in the pantry either, but I was figuring on putting in a door with ventilation, so that it is not so sealed off

  4. We just re-did our 30 day walk through with our new PM today. That was one our list too. He said they recently started using a new vent and it may remain open outside. He received calls from his other homes as well. He put in a call with the HVAC company to replace the vent.

  5. Our pantry is cold too! I leave the door open at night so it's not so darn cold when I go in to get food for breakfast. Haven't experienced the microwave issue but we didn't have frost here, just really really cold. we are in SC. Was 1 degree yesterday, brr!! I'm sure it was worse where you are!

  6. We had ice on the inside of every window and had one crack :(

We have a Verona and our pantry is always freezing as well. I asked our PM about it and he said that there had been a few complaints about it, but never did anything about it. Our microwave is venting to the outside and is always freezing inside when it's cold out. So, no solutions for you, but you are not alone!
